Everyone say hello to the 19 year old upcoming artist Christopher Leon Frazier or better know as Chris Galaxy. He was born in Chico California but raised in Marysville California. With biggest song being “Time (feat. Zacari) to date. Be sure to keep a eye out for this new artist.

How did you get the stage name Chris Galaxy? Did you have any other stage names beforehand?

“Well before I got the name Chris Galaxy I had a whole bunch of other names. At first it was Vizual Prophet then it was Massive Sky when I was about 13 or 14 then It was Chris Vaxx when I reached high school. When 10th grade came around I had changed it to Chris Galaxy due to it being more relatable to my sound and due to my homie Tre being a rapper himself let him go and take Vaxx. At first when people around my school found out I changed my name to Chris Galaxy of course they weren’t fond of it but as time went on they became more accepting of it.”

What was it like growing up in Marysville California?

“Growing up in Marysville was a little rough not gonna lie. Mainly because prior to me hitting the age of like 16 or 17 I was constantly surrounded by people who were never into the things I was into. I was always the odd man out because everyone was either into sports or video games heavy and I was all in on music from like age 7.”

What made you wanna pursue music?

“So from age 7 to 14 or maybe 15 I was exclusively always making beats, never rapped, never even wrote a song, none of that I was just always making beats. I didn’t start to write songs and rap until 9th grade when my group of friends convinced me lowkey to start rapping over the beats I was making. At first of course they weren’t the best songs but what really made me feel like I could do it was when I released this song named “Grass” on my soundcloud and shared it around or whatever and like 2 or 3 people were quoting lyrics from it. It may not seem like a lot but to a shy, quiet person like me it meant the world to me.”

Did any artist influence your style? If so, who?

“Oh yeah of course there were artists that influenced my style. Early on it was Odd Future heavy. To me they were all geniuses to me, almost god like. I remember the first time my 8 year old self heard Tyler, The Creator’s mixtape “Bastard” I was just so intrigued by the production and the sonics on that album I would listen to that everyday, I didn’t even care about what he was talking about. I know like every song on that project. True classic in my eyes, right next to Wolf. Another artist that influenced my style is Travis Scott. Another artist that takes everything he does to the next level. People like to criticize the auto tune and all that but don’t ever listen to how that man produces and structures his music. It’s insane. Back in 2014 when Days Before Rodeo released I found it on HotNewHipHop, it was like a free mixtape website, I knew that shit was special. Then a year later he released “Rodeo”. That shit was beautiful the first time I heard it. But when it came down to my sound though I asked myself how could I take both of these artists with two very distinct sounds and mold it into my own without sounding too much like either of them and that’s where the space vibe that’s in all of my music came from after a lot of trial and error.”

What was it like writing “Time(feat. Zacari)?

“Writing “Time” in the moment didn’t feel like anything when I was in the process of making it but when it was finished and I listened to it back I was like damn you was really in your feelings when you made this. The first part of it was about this female I was trying to get with but she was playing games and fucking with me and I had no other way to really express it so i did what any rapper does and threw it in a song and the second part of it was about my ex just doing that last little remenise nothing major there. Believe it or not, “Time” was originally not gonna come out. I sent a snippet of it to my friend Skyluhz who edits videos and makes music himself and he had a popular AMV account on instagram so I just asked him if he could make a little AMV to it and he did and when he sent it back he was telling me how catchy the song was and how the hook was stuck in his head for about like a week. So I was like you know what lemme take a chance and put it out and the rest is history. It reached over 20,000 streams across all platforms, my whole high school knew the song by heart when I performed it at school, people were quoting the song left and right. Till this day, I thank him for convincing me to drop that song. It definitely gave me the confidence boost to drop more music and that’s what i’ve been doing since March of last year consistently.”

What are your goals for 2020?

“ As far as goals for 2020 I really only have one big one I want to do and that is do more live performances. Get my name out there more. I had a couple of early opportunities to do live shows but I wasn’t ready. Also just really perfect my craft and take it to the next level.”
