Interview with George Strunk
Let’s give a warm welcome to 18 year old George Strunk. A producer coming out of Denver, Colorado with a whole new sound.
Where’d you get the stage name George Strunk?
“George Strunk is my birth name. I don’t really think I (as a producer) need a stage name. I believe my actual art and music speaks for itself.”
Did you have any stage names before George Strunk?
“While I don’t have any other names for my artistry, my close friends and people I associate with call me Mr.Producer, so in a way I have a different stage name, but I don’t officially call myself that as a artist.”
What was it like to grow up in Denver, Colorado?
“Denver is honestly a less populated and climatically different twin of LA in my opinion. The politics are mostly Democratic, the people and vibes of the city are similar. Due to Denver not being on the music industry’s maps, artists (especially producers and rappers/singers) have to work twice as hard. In a way I’ve had to really prove myself more to others in my state and others out of state as compared to Atlanta, Georgia. A lot of rappers call Atlanta home and the music industry has adapted and brought their business there. Denver doesn’t have any record labels like (Universal, Warner bro’s, ect) So while Denver has been a great place to grow up and live, it’s also made it challenging to network with the right people, put my music in front of the right people, and it’s also made it challenging for my specific type of music to blow up here. I’m still working on my craft and trying to put Denver on the maps to this day.”
What made you want to pursue music?
“From a young age, I always had a passion for music. I took guitar lessons when I was in first grade for about a year. My brother was taking vocal lessons at the same time from another coach at the same studio. His vocal coach ended up becoming my piano coach, and to this day is still one of my go to teachers. I wrote my first song when I was 11, and from there I knew I wanted to be around music for career someday. Music is a expression through words and instruments, its the chance to tell a story in a unique way. At the end of the day, there’s always going to be room for another track, there’s always going to be that person out there seeking a story they can relate it. I write music because I get to tell my own story, express myself, and create what Im seeking.”
Did any artist influence your style? If so who?
“Norwegian producer and DJ Kygo, his track It ain’t me with Selena Gomez was the track that inspired me to make music. I remember hearing it for the first time thinking how different the track was from main stream music. The vocal chops, snaps, and happy chords and plucks got me into the style of tropical house. I loved rap as well because its a limitless genre. You can make it what you want. I like to call my style for my productions Trop-rap, but Ive dipped into multiple different pallets. The past couple years were experimental, but now Im full speed ahead into my music. Kygo has had a major impact on my music. If it wasn’t for him, I don’t know if my music would sound the same. As a matter of fact, I don’t know if I’d be this far into my music journey and career.”
Why is your sound so different?
“A lot of people realize my sound is drastically different compared to other genres. Often times people can’t put a genre on my name, but I honestly like it. I like being different and not fitting a genre. I like the edgy idea of me releasing a new track others not knowing what it will sound like. Real musicians can write a song for any genre in my opinion. I love dipping into every pallet thats given to me.”
What are your goals for 2020?
“I do plan on releasing more music this year (2020). While it won’t be a full blown album, I do have multiple tracks currently in Logic Sessions that Im writing too. I also have multiple Inde artists Im working on collaborations with, as well as a few big names, but I can’t share those just yet. I not only have music in the works, I also have visual content on the way. With my Mr.Producer series airing on IGTV and Youtube until June 1st, as well as my Boss Album-Tapped in out, I have a few visuals already out, but I also have some content that currently considered TOP SECERT.”
Be sure to check out his music. He is one of those unique producers that you never really know what is coming, never know what he might bring to the table. These are one of my favorite types of artist’s and producers. Can never really figure out what might pop up from them. Adding a twist to their craft is what draws the attetion from many. I’m glad to have stumbled upon his Instagram and further, reach out to him for a interview. Glad to show off the talent that the world should get to see. Be sure to keep a eye out for what he brings next!
