A new upcoming artist by the name of J.in is a 20 year old artist that has been gaining a name for himself with his latest release “Hurt In Her Eyes”. A new DC artist you should be keeping a eye out for.

How’d you get the stage name J.in?

“My stage name broken down is “J” for Johe, my birth name, and “in” for introvert. I wanted to connect with others like me, who might consider themselves introverts, or antisocial extroverts, and be a voice for them. The point is to shine a light on what may seem like a weakness, and take away the stigma, that introverts aren’t “as fun”, surrounding that demographic. It’s a powerful message to me, and hopefully it’ll inspire the next person to shine.”

Did you have any other stage names before you decided on J.in?

“J.in was my first choice, it stuck, and I didn’t really see a reason to change it to be honest. You can pronounce it J-in, or Jin, making it easy to rhyme with lol.”

What made you want to pursue music?

“Although I’ve been writing poems/raps since 5th grade, it wasn’t my first career choice. I was always interested in music since I picked up a guitar when I was 10, continued to play the steal drums at the same age, and I can play a mean ukulele. Music has helped me grow grow through the years. Anytime I was sad, happy, angry, or whatever the case may be, I have always turned to music for comfort. Any artist can tell you that music is one of the best ways to be yourself, when you have an attachment that strong to anything, it simply becomes a part of you. It became apparent, after high school, that music meant more to me than any other job I could think of, and I decided it was time to take it seriously.”

What was it like working on “Hurt in her eyes”?

“Hurt in Her Eyes is a song loosely based off a friend from high school. We talked about a lot and nothing at the same time, and her experiences inspired me to write this song. I could see how complex she was, from her acts of kindness, and her brilliant, fun attitude towards everything. At the same time, you can really understand and get to know a persons perspective in life through their eyes. Sometimes the two don’t match, hence the tittle Hurt in Her Eyes. I don’t think she knows how much I valued those moments, and I don’t even think she knows the song is about her lol.”

Do you have any artist that influenced your style? If so who?

“I take influence from a lot of different artist, Eminem, B.o.B, J.Cole. Kendrick Lamar, Lincoln Park, Imagine dragons, One Republic and so on and so forth. If I had to choose an artist who has influenced me the most it would be J.Cole. With that being said, my style as a artist will always change, and I aim too be as diverse as the music I listen to.”

What are your goals for 2020?

“This year I will be working harder than ever. There isn’t much that I will not do this year. I have my first EP, which will be out shorty, I look forward to working with others in my field and ultimately expand my reach, and go all out. I’m exited to see the hard work and music flourish.”
