Meet the 19 year old New York artist who’s been making a name for his self with his biggest song ‘Could You’ which has been constantly gaining streams and attention since release.

Where’d you get the stage name Jiwon?

“It’s my first name. It’s Korean. I think it means “wise mountain” or something, so I thought I might as well use it since it’s me. Can’t get more authentic than my real name.”

What was it like growing up in New York?

“There’s music everywhere. It’s almost inescapable, but it’s so eclectic. You can hear stuff from every walk of life if you look hard enough, so many different experiences and sounds. Also, everyone’s making music. So it’s kind of a double edged sword. You have a lot of people willing to hear ur new stuff, but also a lot of people trying to do the same thing as you, so it can get overwhelming at times.”

Did any artist influence your style? If so who?

“I’ve been listening to a lot of Joji. I think he’s one of most interesting artists around. Also Porches new album is so gorgeous. I’m still experimenting and trying to find my sound, but one thing I want to keep consistent is the rawness and honesty that works so well for these artists.”

What was it like writing ‘Could you’?

“It was a stream of consciousness. I just sat down with the synth loop and the song kind of wrote itself. I love writing like that where its all spontaneous and sometimes it comes together perfectly like on “Could You?.””

What are your goals for 2020?

“I have a few singles dropping for the summer. I had some live shows set up that obviously got cancelled, but I really want to release a longer project in the fall, maybe an EP or short album.”
