Interview With Kallen
Everyone give a warm welcome to Keithen Allen better known as Kallen. A 20 year old artist coming out Baton Rouge, La. With biggest song being “Make a Way For Me.”
Where’d you get the stage name Keithen ?
“At first I went by Kanji because I liked the way it sounded until I started really trying to find myself and stay true to myself because when I’m dead and gone I want people to always remember me as a real stand up guy.”
What was it like growing up in Baton Rouge?
“Growing up in Baton Rouge was amazing honestly with many flaws. Living in Baton Rouge gave me character. Growing up with a single mother on section 8 living in Baton Rouge is kind of scary because she can only do so much especially when she have her own problems to worry about, and that gave me the freedom to really run wild but she always made a way for me. She raised me To be a Soulja and alway stand tall and never fold in the eyes of fear but always plays your cards right because this world is tragic, so I was hipped on how to move right in this world at an early age. that’s my OG!! I started hanging in the streets early with my cousins near plank rd on some young stuff and my mom peeped so she sent me off to live with my brother for a better life. Living with my brother (Akilah) Was hard at first because he is the realest person I know and just know ways to sit you down and give you the real to make you think. That dirty gone always have my heart because it made me who I am and gave me the tools I needed to really go dumb in my music. If you was raised in Baton Rouge you’re definitely cut from a different cloth.”
What made you want to pursue music?
“I wanted to purse music because I listened to a lot of people that made great songs but I didn’t get that real satisfaction on them speaking on exactly how I’m feeling at whatever moment, so I decided to do something I regret to get my first studio equipment but when I got it, it was up!! I started taking music serious but I still didn’t feel like I had the keys to really get myself out there so I took a break for a minute. It was when I graduated high school and planned on not going to college when I was like ok let me learn as many ins and out I can in the music industry so I took months on months to to learn the ins and outs and but hustle to get my money up enough to where I feel comfortable enough to feel like Ight I’m ready to put the work in so I got a studio set up and the rest is history.”
What was it like writing “Make A Way For Me.”?
“ Writing Make A Way For Me was exactly what the title mean. I had a moment in my room smoking, listening to beats when I came across the beat to Make A Way For Me and it just spoke to me, Like bruh I gotta speak. I never really pray but that song made me want to ask for god hands and guide me. I had butterflies writing that song. It seemed like since god was like I can’t get to you through actual prayer Im going to make you talk to me through this beat and your pen. I felt I had a deep connection with god that night and now I just know that god always pop up to bless you in mysterious ways and show you he’s still in your presence even when you feel like the walls are closing in from all 4 corners.”
What is your favorite song you’ve released?
“ My favorite song??? Ummm I really don’t know. I bang with all my songs but if I had to choose I would have to choose my Lows and High Ep because it’s real to me and my voice holds power in them tracks.”
What are your goals before 2020 ends?
“My goal before 2020 ends is to have enough recognition and people who genuinely love my music and me as a person to finally see my talent and be like ok this dude might be on to something & finally getting out of Baton Rouge”
