Everyone give a warm welcome to 21 year old Mikel Battles better known as Kelfromvisions. A upcoming music artist from Pittsburgh, PA who’s been making a name for himself with his biggest song “Don’t Know”.

How’d you get the stage name “kelfromvisions”?

“Me and my two friends in high school started a clothing line names Visions Attire. It is running to this day, check out www.visionsattire.com. Growing up my nickname was always kel so I put them both together.”

How was it like growing up in Pittsburgh?

“I grew up being really close to my grandparents and uncles. Went to a really good school. There were a lot of people who doubted me and picked on me for chasing something different from the traditional Jobs but my uncles always told me to do what I truly loved. They told me “a lot of people won’t understand or support it but i doesn’t matter. Do the things that make you happy.” I will forever be grateful for my mom, my uncles and my grandparents. They made sure that I was on the right track, no matter the circumstances”

What made you want to pursue music?

“I’ve always loved music, growing up my mom loved hip hop and R&B so I was exposed to music a an extremely young age. I wanted to join the band when I was younger but it was too expensive, so when high school came around, my boys rellz and Dylan talked about making music and I saved up a couple thousand dollars to chase what we wanted. I now own a studio in McKees rocks, doing what I love.

Did any artist influence your style? if so, who?

“I couldn’t really pinpoint my style to an artist in particular, there was a point in time where I was listening to alternative music too and I feel as though some of my flows show from there also.”

What was it like writing “Don’t Know”?

“Writing “Don’t Know” was not really different from my other songs as far the creative flow. In the summer I spent a lot of nights in the studio after my sessions with my manager gio (@giomadeit_) and I just felt stuck. I was mentally stuck, and I was not sure where to go or what to do next. Putting my music out there is stressful because I know that being an artist takes a lot of vulnerability, I am putting myself out there and that is always on my mind. Don’t know kind or represents a “midlife crisis” as you can say. I am just a college student, confused on what I want to fully pursue for the rest of my life.”

What are your goals before 2020 ends?

“I want to reach enough people who are feeling the same as I am and let them know that they are not alone. It’s more than just music.”
