Welcome 32 year old artist Hassan Shaheed II are better known as Methodikal Tha Shogun. Coming out of Houston, TX with biggest song being “ Fight”.

Where’d you get the stage name “Methodikal Tha Shogun”?

“In certain settings I’m considered shy in a lot of ways so when people talk around me I don’t just up and jump in the conversation. I take my time and see what’s really going on before I speak. I’ve been known to be a very methodical person because of the way I approach things.”

What was it like growing up in Houston, TX?

“For me it was a bit different because I didn’t really play with any kids my own age. I had older sisters, older cousins that I was around the most. A lot of kids in the neighborhood were either troublemakers or bullies and I didn’t want to be a part of that.”

What made you want to pursue music?

“I’ve been singing since I’d say 5 years old. I started off with some old school R&B and then started listening to some newer R&B like R Kelly, Jodeci, Johnny Gill, and Dru Hill. Later on because of some of my cousins listening to Master P, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and those guys I started listening to Hip Hop a bit more.”

Did any artist influence your style if so, who?

“One of the first few artists to influence me had to be Tupac, then artists from New Orleans like No Limit, Cash Money, not to mention people in Houston like Scarface, UGK, Screwed Up Clique, etc. My biggest influences are Wu-tang Clan Eminem.”

What was it like writing the song “Fight”?

“I wrote “Fight” with the intention of wanting to showcase my lyrical side, my flow and a bit more of my personality. Growing up I used to (and still) watch a lot of boxing and play a lot of video games. I wanted to write a song that showed more of that playful side of me.”

What are your goals for 2020 ?

“I’m starting to do live shows. I just performed live at the LIT Festival here in Houston at a club called Club Guess What. I’m looking to do more touring this year while writing and showcasing more of my lyrical side plus being more engaging on social media.”
