Everyone give a warm welcome to Roberto Joseph Ramirez better known as Ruezy. A 20 year old upcoming artist from Salem, Oregon with biggest song being Cookies n Cream

How’d you get the stage name “Ruezy”?

“It was a mixture between the word “uzi” and my old rap name “ruebare”. I also added the y at the end because it seemed slick to me and its silent. I was thinking of Ruezi at first but it seemed weird to me. I wanted to be different so I added a silent Y at thee end.”

Did you have any other stage names before hand?

“MC Bert but I was 15 and then RueBare when I was like 17. MC Bert is kind of whack and corny and RueBare was alright but it sounded a little childish to me because it has “Bare” in it. Ever since 2018 I’ve been sticking with Ruezy and I think that’s the name I’m going to keep permanently.”

What was it like growing up in Salem, Oregon?

“Chill really, at least it was. I grew up there so I know the city well. It’s been worse because there’s more crime now compared to how it was back in lets say 2013. I grew up in the North East side of Salem and that’s where some would call it the “Ghetto”. To be more precise, the north gate district.”

Did growing up here influence your style any?

“No not at all. I talk to some local rappers but I never took inspiration from them. I think they do have potential as much as I do. The music scene when it comes to hip hop in Oregon isn’t huge. The only rappers I can name that came from Oregon are Illmaculate, Amine, and Cool Nutz. They are from Portland, our biggest city in Oregon.”

Did any artist influence your style? if so , who?

“It ranges from old school to new school. From the old school category I would say Eminem/D12 and new school would most likely be Polo G because I’ve been getting more melodic and Polo G is great at melodic rap. I’ve been messing with my style more often now. I like to be versatile in my songs and do different flows and a lot of other different shit. It never hurts to do something new.”

What was it like writing “cookies n cream”?

“That’s a song a lot of people like. It’s catchy and has a great flow to it. The song is completely different from the other work I have done in the past. I tried to aim for something catchy and a little mainstream when doing that song. Definitely not my best I’ve done in my opinion but it’s up there. I want to make more songs like that.”

What are your goals for 2021?

“To make more music and to perform locally. I have milestones as well but those are sort of hard to reach but I will work hard to get where I want to be. And of course to blow up and get noticed but that takes years. I’m just never going to give up and will be making music regardless if I make it or not. It’s my passion ya know?”
