Interview with Ruscillo
Everyone give a warm welcome 17 year old Nicholas Charles Ruscillo Donovan are better known as Ruscillo. A artist from Salem NH whos been making a name for himself with his latest relase “Backyard Grooves!”
Where’d you get the stage name Ruscillo?
“Ruscillo is my mom’s last name. She and my brother use that name and i’ve always felt more connected to that last name than my fathers last name. #nodadgang”
Did you have any stage names before hand. if so, what?
“Ruscillo was around since the beginning. My friends thought of some shit like young prince but I wanted to make it a point to stay true to myself.”
What was it like growing up in Salem, NH ?
“I feel out of place. New Hampshire really has never been my favorite place to be. I enjoy nature but i’m definitely more of a city person. I don’t connect with many people in Salem but I've found a niche of people i can vibe with. What really sucks is people out here are very turned off of supporting local artists.”
What made you want to pursue music ?
“I’ve always loved a bunch of different genres of music like r&b rap pop rock all of it. I’ve also always dreamed of being a musician and nowadays it’s so easy to get started so I've been grinding since i got the confidence to start posting. I’ll admit my confidence in the music still isn’t all there sometimes but it’s all about pushing yourself.”
Did any artist influence your style? If so, who?
“I have a lot of influences but my biggest inspirations at the moment has to be Dominic Fike, Isaiah Rashad & Still Woozy. Sorta a weird mix but Isaiah has this nasty deep delivery in his cilvia demo tapes that are amazing, Dominic has the same but he’s much more melodic. & still woozy is an amazing producer and artist.”
What was it like writing “Backyard grooves”?
“I was just in the backyard, smoking on gas, feet on the grass, writing up these bars. I was reflecting on my life the past year and I recently got over a relationship that took a lot out of me. The song is just a glimpse into my recovery.”
What are your goals for 2020?
“singles! I’m just tryna build my audience. I’m slowing building a team of people to help me out on every release and hopefully improve the music overall.”
