Every one give a warm welcome to Sebastian Cyde or better know as Saint Sebby. A new 22 year old artist coming straight out of London England with biggest being “Choppa My Friends”.

Where’d you get the name stage name Saint Sebby from?

“Well Sebby is short for my name, Sebastian. Normally people shorten Sebastian to Seb but I wanted something that was a bit different so Sebby has always been something that kinda appealed to me more.”

What was it like to grow up in London?

“London is alright, the weather is terrible though but I’m sure everybody knows that already. I come from what we call a ‘working class’ background so my childhood wasn’t privileged or anything like that at all. I wasn’t poor but my family were far from rich or anything like that. It wasn’t too bad growing up, we had some family issues but nothing too crazy. To be honest it was a little lonely growing up because I’m an only child and most of my friends aren’t into the kinds of things I’m into so sometimes I really felt like an outsider, and I guess that led to me sort of being alone a lot of the time but I always had my music to soothe me.”

Choppa My Friend

What was it like to write “Choppa My Friend”?

“It was a weird experience because it was a really personal song for me. It’s like really exposing how my mind works and how I think about things. That’s why some parts of it seem really wild and crazy and other parts are very deep and emotional because that’s how I am as a person, sometimes I’m calm and collected, and other times I kind of fall victim to that other wild side of myself. So it was really fun and exciting making it because it kind of helped me realise a lot of sides of myself and my own personality. Some parts of the song I’m laughing and making jokes, some parts im exposing my darker perspective on life, some parts I’m exposing past experiences where people have mistreated me or betrayed me and other parts im sharing some of my regrets about my past. It’s really just like an in depth look into who I really am in a song.”

What made you want to pursue music?

“I’ve always loved music more than anything else. I was that kid who always had headphones on no matter where I was. I mainly used it to block out negative things that were going on around me as like a sort of escape, but as I got older I started using it as a way to explain and express things that I couldn’t really explain in regular words. So it sort of developed into a way for me to express myself, because I’m kind of shy in person so sometimes I use the wrong words or say things in ways that people misunderstand, so I love music because it allows me to really express myself in ways I wouldn’t be able to otherwise. Just that ability and the ability to show people a snap shot of my life, what I’ve got going on, how I’ve been feeling is so great. And I’ve found that a lot of people resonate with it because a lot of people feel the same but don’t feel comfortable expressing those feelings in real life, so that ability to help people who may feel alone is everything to me.”

Did any artist influence your style? If so who?

“I grew up listening to a wide mix of music, in terms of rap I used to listen to all the greats, you know people like Eminem, Lil Wayne and then obviously newer artists like XXXTENTACION, Ski Mask the Slump God, Lil Peep etc. but I’ve always loved rock aswell. I used to listen to a lot of bands like Nirvana, Slipknot, Breaking Benjamin and Motionless in White just to name a few. Really it all just depended on what mood I was in, that’s why I think now I rap the way I do and why I like to make alternative rock songs sometimes, to sort of represent that appreciation I had for both sides growing up.”

What are your goals for 2020?

“Honestly, I’m trying my hardest to stay focused. Always pushing myself to see what new forms of art I can create and where I can take my sound next. Just trying to keep evolving to that next level and growing as a person, trying to become more mature and find new ways to help people through music and in general.”
